Today is a very special day in the McAfee household because it’s Justin and I’s ONE YEAR WEDDING ANNIVERSARY. To those who have been married for years, I know a one year anniversary seems almost laughable. “Just wait until you’ve been married for 50 years”, they say. Or, “one day you’ll just be roommates with kids” and those comments break my heart to hear. The past 365 days haven’t always been easy, but I was never under the impression that they would be. We’ve been exactic to finally be married and live this life as husband and wife (rhyme not intended). This day brings us so much joy as we reflect back on our wedding that happened one year ago today: the initial engagement, the wedding preparation, the stress, but most of all, the excitement!
For today’s post I thought I would round up some of our favorite wedding photos into one post and share a little bit of our wedding story. Enjoy!
THE PLANNING
The overall planning of a wedding, or large event, can be daunting. Justin and I are very hands-on people, so we never wanted to hand over the entire preparation of our big day to someone else; we wanted to be involved! After doing our research, we decided that having a full-on wedding planner wasn’t going to be realistic for our budget. Plus, we had a ton of flexibility with work at the time that we felt we could take on planning our wedding on our own. We called vendors, we had tons of meetings, the emails were nonstop, Pinterest was my best friend, and we worked together to bring our vision to life.
(There was one point where I had said “this wedding stuff isn’t stressful at all!”, and Justin made me repeat that statement for him to record. Any time I would feel the stress/anxiety rise, he would play that recording for me, haha!)
THE COORDINATING
I put the word “planning” in italics above because the planning was completely up to Justin and I. We knew what we wanted, and we found all the pieces of the puzzle. The coordinating, however, was a different story. We had an awesome day-of coordinator, Bri, who put our pieces of the puzzle TOGETHER. She 100% executed our big day with her team and the help of other vendors. Having a tendency to overplan, I came 110% prepared when handing over the final plans to Bri and her team. I truly believe that if you 1) are self motivated and determined and 2) have the time, you can plan your wedding on your own.
JUNE 1, 2019
For our wedding we wanted a completely neutral color palette: whites, creams, tans, navy. We wanted the venue to be decorated in a clean, sleek, timeless way. We let the flowers to do the talking, and kept everything else simple.
When our wedding day officially arrived, I think we were mainly excited to party with the people we love, and then get to bed at a decent hour, LOL! The day completely flew by; from the time I woke up, to the time I went to bed felt like an hour.
Much like our wedding day was over in a blink of an eye, so was this past year as a husband and wife. We can’t believe it’s already been one whole year, and we look forward to the many years to come. Happy Anniversary, my love!
