While a lot of my focus here on the blog and over on my social channels is everyday style and attainable outfits, the truth is, I just really love fashion. I’m constantly reading, researching, and soaking up as much as I can about designers, brands, and the collections coming down the runway.
With NYFW underway, I thought it would be fun to bring a little more runway fashion into the mix and share some of my favorite looks from the collections I’m following. Because while I may spend most of my time talking about what to wear on a Tuesday afternoon, I certainly don’t mind dreaming about the runway, too.
If you’re as interested in the fashion world as I am, let’s take a look at five of my favorite looks from today’s Proenza Schouler show.
The tailoring of this look is what initially caught my eye. I’m a sucker for a longline blazer, and I love the structure this one creates through the shoulders and waist. Chef’s kiss!
With a matching suit like this, I also love that they paired it with a funky, almost ’70s-inspired turtleneck peeking out from the neckline. And that red shoe? Such a fabulous choice. It adds just the right pop of color to an otherwise polished look.
If I could copy and paste this coat onto my body right now, I would. The silhouette is so good, and I love the subtle detail of the buttons stopping at the waist, leaving the rest of the jacket open and allowing for movement as you walk.
I’ve always loved red and black together, and this entire look feels spunky, abstract, and just plain fun. It’s a little unexpected without feeling over-the-top, which is exactly what makes it work for me!
I think it’s so cool to wear a shirt dress open as a jacket. It gives the look a very feminine, almost bridal-esque feel, while the structured collar adds just the right hint of masculinity.
At first glance, these might just look like plain white jeans to the average person, but it’s the little details that make them interesting. I love the subtle gray contrast around the waistband and fly, along with the double-button detail. It’s a great reminder that sometimes the smallest details can make a basic piece feel anything but basic.
I have a feeling we’re going to see a lot of this cobalt blue this season. It’s eye-catching, vibrant, and such a fun way to add a pop of color. It’s hard to ignore a dress in a color like this, but what I love just as much is the silhouette.
I’m always a fan of a mock neck and structured shoulders, and the asymmetrical ruching at the waist is such a flattering detail. It creates shape while still feeling modern and effortless. This dress is a powerhouse piece!
Last but not least, this dress immediately caught my eye because of the striking contrast between the vibrant red and thick black trim running down one side. I love the play between the two halves of the dress — the short-sleeved side feels more traditional and modest, while the sleeveless side, complete with a high slit, brings in a little drama and shows off the leg.
The sheen and subtle pattern of the fabric add another layer of interest, with a slight kimono-inspired feel that makes the dress even more striking. It’s playful, unexpected, and the kind of piece you can’t help but look at a little longer.
